ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: A postgraduate doctor at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) was booked on the charge of detaining his junior house officer with criminal intimidation, police said on Monday.

The Margalla police registered the case against Dr Imran in response to a complaint lodged by Dr Gohar Ali for confining him at gunpoint in a room of medical officers’ hostel on August 31.

Earlier, the police had asked the complainant to approach the executive director of Pims and get permission to initiate legal action against the accused.

The police called the accused to inquire about the matter but he did not appear before the ED and the police. In response, the police registered the case on Sunday.

Dr Ali and Dr Imran are working at the gastroenterology department and have been engaged in a cold war for the last a couple of months, doctors in the hospital told Dawn.

They had also entered into scuffles and the matter was also brought under the notice of the ED but no action was taken against them, they added.

Investigation officer ASI Mohammad Raees quoted Dr Ali as saying that Dr Imran scuffled with him in the gastro ward and later they ran into a brawl in the canteen.

On August 31, Dr Imran intercepted him at the hostel and dragged him into a room at gunpoint, he added.

The IO said though the police had registered a case against the accused but no efforts were made to arrest him and recover the pistol which he used in the criminal act.

Some senior doctors have sought time from the police to settle the issue between the two, the ASI added.

Executive Director Pims Mehmood Jamal was not available for comments.

The accused, Dr Imran, did not attend his cellphone when this reporter tried to contact him for his comments.
