PESHAWAR, Dec 28: The capital city police have arrested 61 people in connection with running mini-cinema houses and sealed a number of video shops in the provincial capital during the last few days.

A press release issued here on Saturday said that the capital city police had expedited its campaign against anti-social elements in the city and constituted 15 special teams to check this illegal activities in the Frontier province.

After the installation of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government in the province the police have started campaign against what the provincial government described as indecency and vulgarity and removed billboards from cinema houses in Peshawar.

These special teams conducted raids in different localities of the city and arrested 61 persons including video-shop owners. The police parties also sealed many mini-cinema houses.

The press release said that the police also seized large quantity of smuggled petrol and arrested 42 persons in connection with selling smuggled Iranian petrol.

About 20 alleged proclaimed offenders were arrested and 108 persons were detained in connection with carrying illegal arms and recovered two klashnikov, four kalakov, nine rifles, 35 pistols, three hand-grenades and 470kg contraband including opium and heroin.
