LAHORE, Sept 14: Field teams have so far detected and destroyed dengue larvae at 2,253 places within the jurisdiction of the Ravi Town Municipal Administration.

The teams also carried out Inter-Residual Spray (IRS) at 1,825 houses besides getting criminal cases registered against 60 people for violating the dengue regulations at their factories, warehouses, workshops, tyre shops etc.

Officials at a meeting held at Ravi Town office on Friday said the town had been divided into three parts to carry out the campaign.

Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik, who presided over the meeting, expressed his grave concern over detection of dengue larvae at a large number of places in the town. He directed the officials to ensure provision of sufficient manpower and equipment for detecting larvae.

He also sought regular attendance of all volunteers of the Civil Defence Department at their duty places in the town on a daily basis. The commissioner asked the CDGL health department to provide three more vehicles to the town administration.

Meanwhile, special teams sealed 21 factories, junkyards and tyre shops all over city after detecting larvae. They also got registered 52 cases besides arresting 21 people.

BUTCHERS: District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal on Friday assured the butchers of providing them all basic facilities at the slaughterhouse and cattle market at Shahpur Kanjran.

At a meeting with the Butchers Association, he asked the butchers and animal traders to cooperate with the administration.

Mr Mengal, while presiding over another meeting, said the CDGL would send more truckloads of essential items to Dera Ghazi Khan division for the flood-hit.

He said the city government had already dispatched nine truckloads of goods to DG Khan.

FINES: The price control magistrates conducted raids at 238 shops and challaned 48 shopkeepers for hoarding and overcharging in two days, says a press release.

The officials also imposed Rs28,400 fine on shopkeepers.
