TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 13: Gojra Additional District and Sessions Judge Mian Shahzad Raza on Thursday handed over twin sisters to their father.
Petitioner Rana Muhammad Jamil, a resident of Chak 416-JB, said he married Bushra Parveen 18 years ago and they had twin daughters -- Kainat Fatima and Nayab Fatima. He said he divorced his wife over some dispute and the latter married Raza Husain.
He said his daughters complained about maltreatment by their stepfather, and demanded their custody.
The court directed the police to recover the twin sisters who corroborated their father’s claim, and handed them over to Jamil.
ROBBERIES: Robbers took away cash and other valuables in two strikes in the city on Wednesday night.
Two armed men stopped journalist Sohail Ghani and his wife near Dabbanwala Canal on Bhaghat Link Road and deprived them of their two-wheeler, cash and ornaments.
Mr Ghani told reporters that he used a passerby’s cell phone to contact police 15 but a Rajana police team reached the spot after two hours.
A gang of eight robbers plundered gold ornaments worth Rs2 million, Rs150,000 in cash and other valuables from Haji Rasheed Ahmad’s house at Chak 330-JB, Seowal.
TORTURE CASE: The city police on Thursday registered a case against the district jail deputy superintendent and nine other officials for torturing a convict.
Abdul Ghaffar, a resident of Chak 183-GB, told the police that deputy superintendent Saifullah Gondal, assistant superintendent Muhammad Javed, Imdad Hussain Shah, Shahbaz Ahmad, Muhammad Sarfraz, Ahmad Ali, Muhammad Hashim, Ijaz Ahmad, Shafqat Nazar and Nasrullah tortured his son Abdul Rehman, an under-trial, for not greasing their palms.
On the order of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Murtaza, the DHQ hospital doctors conducted medical examination of the convict and confirmed torture.
The police registered a case under sections 384, 337 and 352 PPC.
