Two brothers shot dead

RAWALPINDI, Sept 12: Two brothers were shot dead in their house, police said on Wednesday.

Arshad Khan, the elder brother of the victims, said in his statement that all of his five brothers were in the old auto part business and lived in Shahlay valley. He said on Tuesday night, he went to a nearby clinic to get medicine for his nephew. When he returned he found his two brothers, Adam Khan and Nadir Khan, having been shot by some unidentified person.

He said his younger brother, Adam Khan, died on the spot while Nadir was first shifted to Military Hospital and then to District Headquarters Hospital where he died on Wednesday night. According to the complainant, neither he nor his brothers had any enmity. Police ruled out possibility of robbery as nothing was found stolen from the house.

Meanwhile, a man was shot and injured after he tried to overpower robbers on Wednesday.

Kamran Khan said in his complaint that he was heading home with his wife, who is a teacher, from Waqarun Nisa College when they were intercepted by two robbers near Rahimabad railway bridge. He said the robbers snatched gold bangles from his wife at gunpoint and also shot and injured him when he tried to overpower them.

The injured was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.—Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

CHAKWAL, Sept 12: One person was killed and 16 others were injured when a van collided with a trailer near Kot Qazi village in Talagang tehsil on Wednesday.

According to sources, a van carrying a marriage procession was on its way to Attock from Dera Ismail Khan. When the van was passing by Kot Qazi village on Mianwali-Talagang Road, it rammed into a trailer which was coming from the opposite side. Lawa police rushed to the scene and ambulances from Talagang also reached the spot.

The injured were taken to Fauji Foundation Hospital Bilalabad where Mohammad Qasim, a resident of Rajanpur, succumbed to his injuries. Three other persons who received serious injuries were referred to City Hospital Talagang.

The driver of the trailer ran away from the scene leaving behind his vehicle. “The accident occurred due to the negligence of trailer’s driver who managed to escape,” Sub Inspector Mohammad Pervez at Lawa police station told Dawn.

He further said a case against the driver had been registered and police would trace him soon.—Correspondent

Constable booked

ATTOCK, Sept 12: Jand police have arrested a constable for his alleged involvement in an accused escape incident.

The district police said that the accused Riffat Mehmood was arrested by Jand police in a narcotics case on September 8.

On Monday, he was taken to the THQ hospital Jand under the supervision of ASI Javed Iqbal and constable Asad Khan for his medical checkup, he said.

After giving the accused in the custody of the constable, the ASI went to duty medical officer (DMO) to inform him about the medical checkup, he said.

When he returned he found the accused missing and the constable was sitting there, he said.—Correspondent
