KARACHI, Nov 22: Relief goods for Afghan refugees, brought to Karachi by Malaysian naval ships KD Mahawangsa and KD Lekir, were handed over on Thursday to representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in a ceremony at the east wharf berth.

Dato Abdul Aziz Muhammad, deputy secretary general ministry of foreign affairs of Malaysia, was the chief guest.

He said that assistance was a gesture of love and sympathy which the people and the government of Malaysia had for their Afghan brethren.

He appreciated tireless efforts of the government of Pakistan and the UNHCR for providing assistance to Afghan Refugees.

Later the relief goods were formally handed over by chief guest to the representative of the UNHCR, Yusako Hanyo.

The supply consisted of tones of food and clothes.

Yusako, on behalf of the UNHCR, thanked the people and the government of Malaysia for sharing the grief of Afghan people and extending humanitarian assistance at this critical hour.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Sopian Ahmad, Malaysian high commissioner in Pakistan and officers of the visiting naval ships. Various high-ranking civil and military officers and officials of the UNHCR were also present.—PPI
