RAWALPINDI, Sept 2: The Christian community of the garrison city on Sunday brought out a rally for the quashment of blasphemy charges against the Christian girl.

The rally, which was arranged by Pakistan United Christian Movement (PUCM), started from St Johns School and culminated at Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club.

More than a 100 people participated in the rally. The participants were carrying placards, demanding release of the girl.

Talking to journalists, Arif Gill of PUCM said the basic aim of the rally was to demand quashment of blasphemy charges against the Christian girl.

“We want quashment of charges not her release on bail,” he said.

Mr Gill said the Christian community across the country respected the Holy Quran and Islam and all other religions across the globe, and were not involved in the desecration of Holy Quran. “It is the duty of the government and the state to punish those who accused falsely,” he said.

“The time has come to repeal the controversial sections of Blasphemy Act. If it is not possible then include sections for the protection of those who are faced with false charges of blasphemy,” he said.
