PESHAWAR: Six soldiers were killed when militants attacked a check post in the area of Badar in South Waziristan Agency (SWA), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed.

In retaliation, security forces reportedly killed at least 10 militants and a dozen militants had been injured, security sources told

Dozens of militants armed with rockets and grenades stormed the checkpost in Farhang Baba Ziarat village, around 30 kilometres north of Wana, the main town of South Waziristan tribal district, a senior security official in Peshawar told AFP.

Six soldiers have been confirmed killed in the clashes and seven injured, the official said, adding that the toll was likely to rise. Ten militants were killed, he said.

Moreover, sources said that nine, and not six, soldiers had died in the attack.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack and said that they had killed at least a dozen soldiers.

TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said “we have killed more than a dozen soldiers in South Waziristan. Some of the soldiers have been beheaded”.

The area is cut off to journalists and aid workers and it was not possible to confirm the death toll independently.

South Waziristan was once the main stronghold for the Pakistani Taliban. The military launched a large offensive against militants there in 2009, but insurgents still operate in the area and periodically stage attacks.

Dialogue dialogue dialogue...Otherwise use force to eliminate these terrorists.
aqabdulaziz Aug 29, 2012 02:07pm
Why complain now so vigorously? You are the one who aided and abetted them for decades so that they would do their killings in other nations like Afghanistan, India, Chechnya and America.
Indian Aug 29, 2012 07:02pm
Dr, Why do you need to bring Muslim factor in to this, if Islam teaches not to kill Muslims then these killers are not Muslims. This is the problem with the Pakistan everything needs to be painted with Islam and Muslims. The people are just human beings first then what ever else they are .
Ahmed Aug 29, 2012 04:29pm
These people are not Muslims. They are animals Dr. Khan. They need to be eliminated before they enforce their view of Islam.
dhananjay Aug 29, 2012 06:36pm
You have asked "Are these Muslims supposed to be killing each other?". They are supposed to kill whom? If they kill non Muslims, is it acceptable to you? Your conscious seems to be equally dead. Your education does not seem to have transformed you in a matured and thinking human being.

Foreign war? These animals have declared army, government and people of Pakistan as kaffirs. Their single goal is to take over Pakistan and u still consider this foreign war? U became doctor studying the medical books of foreigners, learned from their research and are living off their knowledge. Why don't u put your money where your mouth is and return your degree before espousing such immature comments?

I agree with is really insane for the muslims to fight with each other...but what is the solution?at the same time do you think that you are not part of this mess?As far as i know we all are part to it ,the difference lies only in carrying weapons....I DONT KNOW HOW THIS NATION RECONCILES THIS MESS WITH ITS CONSCIOUS AND HOW IT SLEEPS AT NIGHT?
ali Aug 29, 2012 05:49pm
The militants are giving the Pakistan army a tough time. Maybe the army should call for an increase in air support and also increase in patrolling personnel, this conflict seems to be heading for a long haul.
Dr Ali Khan Aug 29, 2012 08:22am
When will Pakistan get out of this foreign War on Terror? Are these muslims supposed to be killing each other?what a waste of brave muslims on both sides.I dont know how each side reconcile this with their conscious and how do they sleep at night?

Pakistan was quick to recognize Taliban, when it came to power. Pakistan can thank Bibi & Nasarulla Babar for conceving, nurturing, harboring, feeding and raising The Taliban.
umair khan Aug 29, 2012 11:29am
May Allah except this supreme sacrifice from the sons of our soil.without the nation's support no force can win such a war, help from the masses is vital like we have seen in sawat. And we should not deny our soldiers this support.
Karachi Wala Aug 29, 2012 12:21pm
First elimintate those religious parties.
Jayakumar Aug 29, 2012 01:00pm
When will the Pak army attack the militants & not fire just in retaliation !!!!!!
Jamshed Khan Aug 29, 2012 02:39pm
O' brave soldiers and sons of the nation! God bless you, the defenders of the nation. God bless you for bearing all the hardships, day and night, in winters, summers and rain, and for putting your lives at risk for the nation. God bless you for giving the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Prayers of the nation are with you for a speedy victory against the evils that disrupt our nation's peace. (I wish similar wishes could be extended for our politicians).
A Common Man Aug 29, 2012 11:38am
I agree with you. The situation is getting worse with no "light at the end of the tunnel". These people are inhuman, devils who must be shown no mercy. It is not possible for them to reach a political settlement since their mindset is violent, fully brainwashed with negative opinions and not open to correction. For the good of people of the entire region the authorities must hunt down and get rid of the leaders who instigare and perpetrate such evil acts.
Aamir Aug 29, 2012 01:18pm
Now why was Army attacked? No operation going on in North Waziristan, still they are attacking, and their sympathizers will say, "as the operation is in discussion.... that's why!"
Iftikhar Husain Aug 29, 2012 11:21am
I totally agree with the previous commentator they must be eliminated there is no other solution.
Syed Shah Aug 29, 2012 10:18am
We cannot tolerate this extra-constitutional authority. We must eliminate them at all cost regardless of the adulation they receive for such acts from the religios parties. They are in fact aiding and abetting by silence.
Shabbir Aug 29, 2012 05:24pm
I am there, fighting war against them. These Talibans are not humans, they are worst than animals. They have no ethics, religious beliefs or respect for humanity. Only language they know is of money. One can get anything done from them in return of money.
shan Aug 30, 2012 07:27am
Allah Bless them...
Shan-e-Alam Aug 30, 2012 07:28am
we love Pakistan's Army and salute them...
Javed Aug 29, 2012 08:25pm
Hang the TTP, other militants in public....and then watch them run away. That is the only language they understand. And this is not a foreign war on terror...this is Pakistan's war
M R Khawaja Aug 29, 2012 11:29am
People keep on saying kill them before they kill you any where in pakistan do not catch them they are are not pakistani not even human being people of pakistan can not accept their idiology and way of life and they are type of people to teach them to be human being.
Kotirama Aug 29, 2012 08:25pm
They are all muslims bhai and followers of Islam.
Sajid Aug 29, 2012 09:06am
Word "Killed" need to be replaced by "Martyr", they gave their life for the sake of country.
