QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has opposed creation of new provinces and said such a move would be dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country.
He said in a statement issued here on Tuesday that the move should be abandoned because it could add to the problems being faced by the country.
He said that people talking about new provinces had no idea about sensitivity of the matter. They were supporting the move only for short-term political gains.
“The issue of new provinces will lead to anarchy which would be difficult to control,” Nawab Raisani said.
He said he had urged the president, prime minister and leaders of some parties not to open the Pandora’s box by raising the issue of new provinces.
Nawab Raisani said the existing federating units should be given rights in accordance with the 1940 Resolution to make them stronger.
“A new social contract should be drawn up on the basis of the 1940 Resolution because it is the only way to end the sense of deprivation in some federating units,” he said, adding that he had been against creation of new provinces from the very beginning.
He said he would continue to oppose the idea and would launch a campaign against it because formation of new provinces was not a solution to the problems being faced by the country.
