As I lay on my bed I reflected on the day’s happening — a very tiring day indeed. In the morning, as I was going downstairs to go to school, I almost bumped into a feeble-looking, wrinkled-faced old lady. She was carrying fish and going upstairs.
I was in a hurry and therefore ran to catch the bus but the sight of such a lady bothered me at school.
When I returned home, I asked mom, “Who is that old lady I saw?”
Then I gave her a bit of description of how she looked.
“Oh! So you are talking about Aunt Razia,” my mother exclaimed.
I was eager to know about her that I urged mom to tell me more.
“She is very poor, a widow and also has no children,” my mother filled me in. However, a note of melancholy in her voice could hardly be overlooked.
Mother did not know much about her. She told me that the lady had she shifted to our place because her last landlord asked her to leave since she could not pay the rent.
“She buys fish and sell in the market,” my mother told me something surprising. Such an elderly lady does such a tough task!
Hearing this I felt quite upset and so I resolved to help her. I first went to check my savings, but I there really wasn’t much in my money box.
I kept thinking about it for the rest of the day and didn’t even do my homework. Then an idea popped up in my mind. I had strength but she was very aged, I could bring the fishes and sell them for her. When I told my mom about my idea, she did not say anything but smiled in approval.
Aunt Razia resided in a room on the top floor of our house. After supper I went to pay her a visit. After several loud knocks the door was opened, much to my relief.
She did not know me properly but readily talked to me.It took me sometime to introduce myself and convince her that I had come to help her.
“No one in this world cares what I suffer,” she said sadly staring at the floor.
“But I do. I want to help you,” I replied immediately before she could say anything else.
“Ah yes! You are from a noble family,” she approved of me finally.
I told her that since she had brought the fishes, I can go and sell them for her.
“I have to clean them first dear,” she told me.
“I may as well lend you a hand in that too,” I answered enthusiastically.
We both were then engaged in this task. It only took less than an hour with four hands at work. After we were done with this, she told me the details of what had to be done next.
Constantly revising the instructions in my mind, I took the basket and set off.
I turned out to be a successful businessman and managed to get her a good profit that day. I have never been so proud of myself. As I went to bed at night, I could feel a strong sense of achievement. I felt lighter than ever. I had managed to obtain material profit for her and eternal “profit” for myself.
