Governor meets people on Eid

PESHAWAR, Aug 22: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar on Monday offered Eid prayers along with Corps Commander, Peshawar Lt-General Khalid Rabbani, hundreds of military officers and personnel, and civilians here at the Garrison Services Sports Ground.

He prayed for the country’s security, solidarity, unity, development and prosperity.

Later, the governor and the corps commander met military officers and personnel and civilians, and exchanged Eid greetings.

Meanwhile, people from different walks of life on Monday called on the governor at Governor’s House and greeted him on Eid.—Bureau Report

Eid celebrated with fervour

GILGIT, Aug 22: People in Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday celebrated Eidul Fitr with religious zeal and fervour.

Day dawned with special prayers for the integrity and solidarity of the country and liberation of the occupied territories of Muslims.

Eid prayers were offered in Main Eidgah of Ahl-i-Sunnat in Konodas, Army Helipad in Jutial, Higher Secondary in Konodas, Imamia Main Eidgah in Jutial.

Delivering Eid sermons, clerics urged Muslims to forge unity and thwart the designs of anti-peace elements.

They stressed the need for communal harmony and urged them to counter those fanning sectarianism.

GB chief minister Mehdi Shah offered Eid prayers in Skardu.

Extraordinary security arrangements were made by police and the administration in the region.

Also in the day, people staged rallies against the recent Mansehra sectarian killings. They later dispersed peacefully. —Correspondent

Four killed in Mingora

MINGORA, Aug 22: Four people were killed and three injured in a road accident and firing incident here on Wednesday.

Police said a car bound for Bunner from Swat veered off the road near Nawagi and plunged into a ravine leaving two people dead and three injured.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in Akhgram area, where their condition was stated be critical.

On Tuesday, a family dispute claimed two lives in Landakai area of Swat. Police said Jalat Khan had a dispute with his father, Ahmad, over a piece of land.

They said Ahmad fired gunshots at Jalat on Eid day killing him on the spot. Ahmad’s sons later attacked their grandfather and killed him.

Police registered a case and arrested Umraiz and Imran over the killings. —Correspondent

Two killed in road accident

SWABI, Aug 22: Two people were killed and two injured when a motorcycle collided head-on with a truck here on Wednesday.

According to police, a motorcycle rode by Jalal Khan and Rizwan collided with a truck on Chota Lahor-Adina Road.

Jalal died on the spot, while Rizwan was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Two minors, Hina Begum and Ishaq Khan, were injured.

The driver fled and police seized his vehicle.

Police registered a case against the driver and began investigation.

In Daulat village, a man was killed by his relatives over a dispute on Wednesday. Zulfiqar Ali was seriously injured and died at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old boy drowned in the River Indus on Wednesday.

Divers later fished out the body and handed it over to the boy’s family for burial.

In another incident, a boy committed suicide in Tordher village by shooting him down. —Correspondent

Help for rain victims

PESHAWAR, Aug 22: Regretting damage caused by torrential rains and flashfloods to public life and property in Nowshera district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar has asked the relevant authorities to ensure provision of maximum relief to the people in distress. He also prayed for the dead people. He also wished early recovery of the injured.

In a statement here, the governor sympathised with the calamity-hit families and assured them that the government was aware of their misery and would help them address it. —Bureau Report

Six arrested

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: The capital police have arrested six persons from different areas of the city and recovered liquor and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

According to details, the Ramna police arrested a bootlegger after a recovery of 50 bottles of liquor from him.

Likewise, the Bani Gala police intercepted two persons on suspicion, but one of them was escaped from the scene. During search the police recovered 54 bottles of liquor from the arrestee.

The Nilor police also intercepted a man on suspicion at G-10/3 and during his search recovered 50 bottles of liquor from him.

Similarly, Lohi Bher and Margalla police intercepted two persons separately and during search recovered two bottles each from them. Moreover, Nilor police raided two different places in Dhoke Chara which led to the recovery of 650 bottles of liquor.

Koral police arrested a man after recovering a 30-bore pistol from him.—Staff Reporter
