RAWALPINDI, Aug 19: The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Sunday completed all arrangements for Eidul Fitr.

Strict security arrangements will be in place on the occasion. All police officials have been assigned places where Eid congregations will be held. The administrations of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards and the city district government are cleaning the roads and streets.

The Solid Waste Management department has cancelled Eid holidays of around 1,500 sanitary workers and officials, including officers of the sanitation department, to ensure cleanliness during Eid days. The sanitation staff will work in three shifts and around 100 vehicles of the department will be in the field for upkeep of the roads and streets leading to Eidgahs and mosques.

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has divided the cantonment into A, B and C zones. The RCB official said the area supervisors, inspectors and zonal chief sanitation inspectors would be responsible for the upkeep of their respective areas during Eid days.

The City District Government officials said they had conducted cleanliness drive in and around the city graveyards to facilitate visitors during Eid days. They further said the sanitation staff had almost cleaned the drains in the city, especially those near the mosques.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) officials said the agency had chalked out a comprehensive plan for smooth functioning of water supply section, water bowser section, sewerage section and Rawal Lake Filtration Plant during the holidays.

He said the concerned water supply and sewerage staff will work during holidays under the supervision of concerned assistant director. All district offices of Wasa at Liaquat Bagh, Commercial Market Satellite Town, Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Shamsabad, Moti Mahal and Gulzar-i-Quaid will remain open.

He said the Wasa Integrated Call Centre would also be functioning to register consumer complaints on toll free number 1334.

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) also made arrangements for the smooth supply of water during Eid days. The officials said the necessary staff had been deployed at tubewells for the provision of water supply.
