Robbers strike at three places

RAWALPINDI, Aug 16:  Armed robbers on Thursday deprived people of money, gold jewelry and cellphones in three different strikes, police said.

Raja Ishfaq Ahmed complained to the Civil Lines police that he was going to his friend’s house to deliver Rs1.2 million when two motorcyclists came and took away the bag .

In another incident, a family was looted of cash, gold ornaments and two cellphones in Khayaban-i-Sir Syed.

Mohammad Mustakeem said a person called on his cellphone and informed him that he had been rewarded in a lucky draw and that he was waiting for him outside his home to deliver the prize.

When he opened the door three armed persons forced their way into the house and held all the inmates hostage in a room, collected Rs30,000, four gold jewelry sets and three mobile phones and escaped.

A group of three robbers raided the house of Shahbaz Ali and looted Rs 385,000 after taking him at gunpoint.—Staff Reporter

Seminar on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: Milli Yakjehti Council, which includes religious political parties belonging to different schools of thought, on Thursday called for observing the 27th of Ramazan as Independence Day, and Jummatul Wida (last Friday of Ramazan) as Quds day each year.  Speaking at a seminar on “Independence Day and Quds”, MYC president Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that it was 27th of Ramazan 1366 AD when Pakistan emerged on the world map and the nation must observe this day as Independence Day, and Jummatul Wida as Quds day to show solidarity with the Muslim brethren of Palestine.

The seminar was organised in accordance with the MYC decisions to provide a common platform to leaders of various religious parties to unite them and minimise their internal rifts. —Staff Reporter

Sports festival

RAWALPINDI, Aug 16: Punjab Sports and Youth Festival will start on August 25 in all districts of Punjab on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.
