MIRPURKHAS, Aug 16: Rangers personnel have been deployed on irrigation channels in Mirpurkhas on Wednesday following a demand by the director Nara Canal and the district administration to ensure supply of water to tail-end growers.

Some influential landlords, allegedly belonging to the family of an influential personality, had forcibly been opening the Dilary, Jawaryasar and Kot Ghulam Mohammad distributaries fed by the East Jamrao canal in taluka Kot Ghulam Mohammad for last couple of days.

These landlords had foiled the attempt of the irrigation officials to supply water to the tail-enders of the East Jamrao canal and taluka Jhuddo a week ago.

The distributaries, closed under rotation programme were forcibly opened.

The decision to deploy Ranges personnel was taken after police and people failed to persuade these landlords not to defy rotation plan.

Director of Nara canal Ghulam Mustafa Ujjan summoned the Rangers personnel with the help of deputy commissioner Mirpurkhas.

And on Wednesday, he met the officers of Qasim Rangers in Hyderabad on and apprised them of the situation after which it was formally decided to deploy Rangers personnel to check theft of irrigation water in the district.

The Rangers personnel, along with director of Nara canal and other irrigation officials, visited 27- kilometre long Puran distributary and sealed about 35 tempered water courses of head reaches.

First of all watercourses of Puran distributary were rectified and afterwards the tempered watercourses were sealed, he added.

He hoped that after deployment of Rangers personnel, tail-enders would judiciously get irrigation water.
