TIMERGARA, Aug 12: A member of village defence committee in Maidan, Lower Dir, identified as Khan Shehzada was killed when unknown miscreants opened fire on him at Gumbat Banda area on Sunday evening, residents told Dawn.

They said that Mr Shehzada was working at his private power station in Gumbat Banda when armed persons opened indiscriminate firing on him, killing him on the spot.

Lal Qila Maidan police registered a case against unknown killers and have started investigation.

Meanwhile, residents of Maidan have expressed anger over rising incidents of targeted killings, saying it was third such incident during the ongoing month of Ramazan.

A few days ago vice-principal of government higher secondary school, Bagh Maidan, was killed when he was going to school.

Earlier, another member of the village defence committee had been killed in the area.
