LAHORE, Aug 11: A committee of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) asked the provinces on Saturday to come up with proposals for improving generation of electricity and its distribution.

The committee on ‘equitable distribution of electricity’ constituted by the prime minister on Wednesday reviewed the current generation and distribution pattern among the provinces.

The meeting, presided over by Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, was attended by chief secretaries and experts from the four provinces, Gilgit Baltistan, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and technicians from Wapda and the power sector.

“The companies dealing with electricity generation and distribution gave a detailed briefing to the representatives of the provinces,” says a participant of the meeting.

He said the data presented before the meeting was reviewed by provincial representatives and they would submit their proposals, especially Punjab which had been blaming the federation for being ‘unfair’ to it in distribution of power.

He said Punjab should now prove how it had been discriminated against.—Ahmad Fraz Khan
