Isn’t Cinderella’s story everyone’s favourite fairytale? And haven’t we all dreamt of having pretty ball gowns and glass slippers like her?

Well, part of this wish can now become true as glass slippers, in honour of the one worn by Cinderella were launched at the recent Paris Fashion Week.

Ace designer Christian Louboutin has designed the shoes using lace and Swarovski crystals, though not glass, and there are butterflies on the vamp and sides that add to the glamour and glitter of the shoes.

But these shoes are not for sale, and are being produced in honour of Disney’s Diamond Edition of Cinderella, and only 20 shoes will be produced and handed out as giveaways by Disney.

“Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairy-tale love, but also shoes,” Louboutin said.

“Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale.”

Curiosity lands on Mars

Recently, NASA’s most advanced Mars rover Curiosity (car-sized) has landed on the Red Planet. The rover has begun its two-year investigation to check if the atmosphere of the planet is feasible for microbial life.

Curiosity has sent its first view of Mars, that is a wide-angle scene of rocky ground. The rover will send more images soon as it observes the landing site and will perform activities with its 10 science instruments, having a total mass 15 times as large as those of Mars’ earlier rovers, Spirit and Opportunity.

Some of the instruments which the Curiosity will use are a laser-firing instrument for checking elemental composition of the rocks, the drill and scoop at the end of its robotic arm which gathers soil samples, sieves and parcel out these samples into the analytical laboratory inside it.

To handle this science toolkit, Curiosity is twice as long and five times as heavy as Spirit or Opportunity. The observations from craters’ interior have identified minerals in the lower layers that indicate a wet history of the Red Planet.
