GILGIT, Aug 5: A man was killed and four others were injured when a bomb blast ripped through a van in Minawar area of the city on Sunday, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Arqam said the incident took place at noon.

A senior police official told this correspondent that the bomb was planted under a culvert and it was detonated by remote control when the van reached there.

The van carrying 18 passengers was going to Haramosh from Gilgit.

The deceased was identified as Shujaat, the van driver.

The injured — Zainab, Wali Mohammad, Anila and Saadat Ali — were said to be out of danger.
