Published December 21, 2002

KARACHI, Dec 20: In recognition of the valuable contribution of Hakeem Muhammad Saeed, a former governor of Sindh, towards the welfare and development of children, the federal government has declared Jan 9 as ‘Children’s Day’ which incidentally also coincides with the birthday of the late Hakeem.

The Sindh government will also celebrate the national Children’s Day in a befitting manner.

Seminars, group discussions, debates, Na’at Khwani and national songs competitions are the main features of the programmes to be held in the province to mark the occasion.

A campaign will also be launched on the day with an aim of creating awareness about children’s rights.

Chief Secretary, K. B. Rind, has directed the district governments and the concerned departments to organize the programmes and ensure maximum participation of children, their parents, teachers, NGOs and community people. —APP
