KARACHI, Dec 20: The feeding counter (No 100) of the Motor Registration Wing has been closed on complaints received from the public as well as other sources about tax evasion and malpractices.

The counter was designated to streamline the computer entries and feed the missing periods of payment of motor vehicle tax in the city.

The director (admin), excise and taxation, on Friday said that feeding of tax paid outside the district where the vehicle was registered is against the provision of the Motor Vehicle Taxation Rule 1959, which provides that “a motor vehicle registered in a district shall pay the motor vehicle tax in the same district”.

He said that a new counter had been opened to facilitate the owners of the vehicles registered in Karachi, who had paid the motor vehicle tax at the manual branches of National Bank so that data pertaining to their tax payments could be corrected and updated through computer.—APP
