Amenities for Gujar Khan

GUJAR KHAN, Aug 1: All the 33 union councils of tehsil Gujar Khan would get Sui gas, boundary wall of Sarwar Shaheed Government College would be erected and a mini stadium for sports at Government Muslim School would be constructed besides providing the city with a proper sewerage system. The bundle of amenities for the city was promised by Raja Javed Ashraf, chief patron and Raja Mohsin Saghir Bhatti, the general secretary of Pakistan People’s Party here on Wednesday.

The leaders said that Gujar Khan was rich in oil and gas resources but those who had been elected from the area during the past regimes instead of focusing on the area’s uplift hankered after their vested interests. They alleged that the tehsil had been deliberately kept backward by the rivals of PPP for years.—Correspondent

Court decides murder case

GUJAR KHAN, Aug 1: The Additional Sessions Judge Syed Asghar Ali handed down death sentence to a killer of his wife while pronouncing decision of a murder case here on Wednesday.

According to the court sources Masood Hussain, a resident of Cheechi Chohan village of Jatli police station had shot his wife, Tanzeela Bibi, dead over a family dispute on April 26.

Jatli police station had registered the case under section 302 PPC over the complaint of Yasir Mahmood, a brother of the victim. The learned judge, after hearing the case, announced death sentence for the killer.— Correspondent

Swimming, bathing banned

ATTOCK, Aug 1: Taking notice of the frequent drowning incidents, the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Shakeel Ahmed on Wednesday imposed a ban under section 144 on swimming/bathing at Ghazi Barotha Hydropower (GBHP) channel and the River Indus.

A press release issued here said the ban was being imposed with immediate effect to avoid any further loss of human life. It’s worth mentioning that about 10 people of different areas of the district had lost their lives in joy of swimming after drowning at the two sites within a span of two weeks.— Correspondent

Obituary

ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: Bilquis Nasrun Minallah, the mother of renowned lawyer Athar Minallah, died in Islamabad on Wednesday morning.

She was 76.

She was the sister of former chief minister Pir Sabir Shah. Her funeral will be held in Sirikot, Haripur, at 4pm.

Fraudsters’ arrested

RAWALPINDI, Aug 1: Five fake customs officials were caught red-handed on the Motorway, near Mandra on Wednesday, police said.

A motorway inspector spotted a private car with registration plate IDN-3321 on the motorway and five persons in customs’ uniform standing beside it were checking motorists.

On finding them suspicious, the motorway inspector asked them to identify themselves as he had never seen such persons from the customs department checking motorists this way.

Responding to the motorway inspector, one of the ‘fake’ customs officials gave his name as Tariq Mehmood and also showed his customs card. On finding them suspicious, he took them to Mandra police station and registered a case against the five fake customs officials on defrauding, cheating and impersonating as customs officials.

The arrested were later identified as Malik Tafiq, Ehsanullah, Shah Nazar, Shaukat Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed. All of the accused belonged to Nowshera.—Staff Reporter
