LONDON, Aug 1: China continued their dominant run at the Games on Wednesday with Lu Xiaojun improving his own snatch and total world records in winning the men's -77kg class weightlifting gold before Jioa Liuyan won the women’s 200m butterfly final in record time.

On the fifth day of full action at the Olympics, Lu lifted 175 kilograms in the snatch, bettering his own world mark by 1 kg. He then took 204 kg in his final clean and jerk for a world record total of 379 kg.

Jiao continued the Chinese gold rush when she touched in 2 minutes, 4.06 seconds, 0.12 quicker than countrywoman Liu Zige's time at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Also in the pool, Nathan Adrian of the United States won the men's 100m freestyle gold with Australia's James Magnussen in second and Canada's Brent Hayden in third.

Hungarian Daniel Gyurta won the men's 200m breaststroke gold in a world record time of 2min 07.28sec, breaking the record of 2:07.31 set by Australian Christian Sprenger at the 2009 world championships in Rome.

Japan's Kosuke Kitajima, going for a third straight Olympic title, was shut out of the medals in fourth.

Better news for Japan came when Kohei Uchimura won the Olympic gold medal in the individual all-around gymnastics final, completing a remarkable turnaround four years after letting the title slip through his fingers when he ended up taking silver at the Beijing Olympics.

North Korea's Rim Jong-Sim relied on her superior clean and jerk to win the women's -69kg class, the reclusive nation's third gold of the Olympic weightlifting competition while Ruben Limardo of Venezuela won the fencing gold in men's individual epee.

Meanwhile, world and European champions Spain exited the men's football tournament as the only team not to score a single goal in three matches after a 0-0 draw against Morocco in their final Group ‘D’ match.

At Wimbledon, defending men’s doubles champions Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland lost to Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the second round. —Agencies
