ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s month-on-month Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) for July 2012 has fallen by 0.25 per cent, as compared to an increase by 0.04 per cent the previous month and increase of 1.3 per cent in July last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced on Monday.

Addressing a press conference here after releasing inflation statistics for the first month of the new fiscal year 2012-2013, Secretary Statistics Division Sohail Ahmad informed media representatives that the major reasons for the decrease in month-on-month inflation was the fall in petroleum and gas prices during the outgoing month.

Yearly CPI rose 9.60 percent in July from a year earlier, while the year-on-year rate was 11.26 percent in June, he added.

Meanwhile, according to statistics released by the PBS, the month-on-month Sensitive Price Index (SPI) has risen by 0.5 per cent while the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) has risen by 0.4 per cent.

During the previous year, price of onions has risen 51 per cent, pulse gram price has gone up by 50 per cent, gram flour by 43 per cent, fresh fruit by 28 per cent, rice by 15 per cent while chicken has grown more expensive in the market by 14.60 per cent.
