ISLAMABAD, July 31: The employees strike at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi on Tuesday took new turn when the office-bearers of all the three associations entered the management block and asked the registrar and other officers of the university to leave and then locked the offices.

On the other hand, the management has requested the Punjab governor and secretary agriculture to take action against the employees for their ‘rowdyism’, Dawn has learnt.

On Tuesday morning, members of Officers Welfare Association (OWA), Academic Staff Association (ASA) and Employees Welfare Association (EWA) gathered outside the management block and started chanting slogans against the appointment of employees.

After a while, employees entered the management block and instructed the registrar of the university, Arshad Nawaz and other officers to leave and then they locked all the offices.

President of ASA, Prof Dr Nadeem Akhtar Abbadi while talking to Dawn said that former VC Dr Irfanul Haq issued appointment letter and received joining report from newly appointed persons on holiday which was against the rules.

“There is a general impression that management issues notifications in back date, so we have decided to lock the offices only to stop only this practice. Management cannot appoint employees without the permission of the syndicate,” he said.

President EWA, Mohammad Faisal said that most of the persons who had been appointed were relatives of the officers.

Registrar of university, Arshad Nawaz, talking to Dawn, confirmed that the employees had stopped him from working and locked the doors due to which he and other staff left the office and went home.

“I can not resist against employees so I have informed military secretary to governor and secretary agriculture to intervene and deploy law enforcement agencies.

It is a wrong way to pressurise the management. If anything is going wrong, the inquiry will prove it. Employees should use proper forum and channel for protest,” he said.
