SHO held for scuffling with lawyer

LAHORE, Dec 19: The SHO of Haveli Lakha Police Station was arrested on Thursday for scuffling with a lawyer on LHC premises.

SHO Mohammad Akram and Advocate Shabir Hussain Dhiloon had had a scuffle after the conclusion of proceedings on a petition for habeas corpus. The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) complained the matter to the Old Anarkali police.

The petition had been filed by one Shamim, who said that her daughter, Shehnaz, was being detained illegally by her husband, Ashraf. She further alleged that Mr Ashraf had lodged a fake abduction case against her daughter using his connections with police.

The court bailiff recovered Ms Shehnaz from the custody of Mr Ashraf and produced her before the court, where she said she did not want to live with her husband. The court allowed her to go with her mother and directed her to cooperate with police in connection with the case registered against her.

Mr Ashraf rushed towards her when she came out of the courtroom, but he was intercepted by her counsel. SHO Akram allegedly manhandled the counsel on the occasion.

Lawyers gathered at the place and took the SHO to the LHCBA office where the Bar president called the SHO of Old Anarkali Police Station and handed Mr Akram over to him.

ADSJ’s ORDER STAYED: The Lahore High Court stayed the orders of a Kamalia additional district and sessions judge who had declared the elections in UC-80 (Faisalabad) void.

Petitioner Mohammad Ishaq Butt and Yousaf Bhatti had challenged the victory of Mudassar Majeed and Ziaullah in the sessions court.

The LHC stayed the ADSJ’s order on the petition of Mr Mudassar and Mr Ziaullah.
