QUETTA, July 29: Seven people were killed in different incidents in parts of Balochistan on Sunday, police said.

An armed clash between two sub-clans of the Bangar tribe in Naseerabad left three men dead. They were identified as Fateh Mohammad, Baqa Mohammad and Abdul Malik.

Police personnel, who visited the troubled place after the fighting and handed bodies to heirs after hospital formalities, said a land dispute had triggered the clash.

In Dera Murad Jamali, Nazar Muhammad allegedly shot dead his wife. He suspected she had an affair with a man.

A woman was gunned down in tehsil Tumbo of Usta Mohammad area allegedly by her brother-in-law. The cause of the murder was said to be a domestic dispute.

Two men on a motorcycle died in Dhadar area of Kechhi district when a truck hit their bike.

Crimes against women

The Aurat Foundation Pakistan has said that violence against women increased by 6.74 per cent in 2011 as compared to 2010.

In a recent report, the NGO said that 8,539 incidents of violence took place against women in the country, which showed that there was 6.74 per cent increase in such cases in 2011 as compared to 2010.

The report said that incidents of violence remained high in Punjab where 6,188 cases were registered, 1,316 were recorded in Sindh, 694 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 193 in Balochistan.

“Some 322 women were killed in the name of honour in Punjab, 266 in Sindh, 86 in Balochistan and 30 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2011,” the report said.

According to the report, the number of cases of rape and gang rape stood at 827 with 734 taking place in Punjab.
