LAHORE, Dec 17: Punjab social welfare and women development department secretary Kazi Afaq Husain has urged the people to play their role to save women from injustice and social pressures.

He was speaking at a media workshop on “Human rights for a balanced society” jointly organized by the social welfare department and Unicef at a local hotel on Tuesday.

Mr Husain said a balanced society could not be developed till women were given equal rights.

He said the Western media was continuously writing against the situation of human rights in Muslim countries. They should counter this negative propaganda, he added.

MPA Shaheen Atiqur Rehman said women and children could not be able to exercise their rights until they were educated.

She urged the social welfare organizations to play their due role in educating them.

Unicef representative Shamshad Qureshi, SSP Farkhanda Iqbal and Children’s Library Complex director Amjad Islam Amjad also spoke on the occasion.
