ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday approved amendments to switch priorities in the supply of natural gas, sources told DawnNews. According to the changes, power plants will now be the second priority in gas supply.

A meeting headed by the premier was underway today here in Islamabad. The session, focusing on overcoming the looming power crisis, was to review the supply and demand of electricity in the country.

According to the sources, gas supply to power plants would be second priority, whereas supply to domestic consumers would regain its position at the top of the priority list. After the amendments, supply to fertiliser plants would now drop from second to the third position in the list.

The session was attended by Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Adviser to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, and other top officials.
