PESHAWAR, Dec 16: The NWFP Speaker, Bakht Jahan Khan, has convened the Assembly session, on the request of the opposition parties, on Dec 23.

He also presided over a joint meeting of the opposition groups in the assembly here in his chamber on Monday and assured them that being a custodian of the House he would remain non- partisan and protect the rights of the opposition.

The minister for law and parliamentary affairs, Malik Zafar Azam; deputy speaker Ikramullah Shahid; parliamentary leaders of the PPP, Abdul Akbar Khan; Anwar Kamal Marwat PML-N; Mushtaq Ghani PML-Q; Bashir Ahmed Bilour ANP; Tehreek-i-Insaf, Mian Nisar Gul; leader of the independent MPAs, Shahzada Gistasip, and secretary assembly attended the meeting.

He lauded what he called the positive role of the treasury and opposition benches being played for the rights of the province.

“I have convened this meeting to strengthen the working relations of both sides in the House,” he added.

Jahan said he would uphold the parliamentary traditions and honour the rights of opposition in the House.

Marwat told the meeting that PML-N members would discuss the validity of the Legal Framework Order and other basic issues confronting the general public.

The minister for law and parliamentary affairs asked the opposition leaders to fix a day for the chief minister to get a vote of confidence.
