Two die as cattle shed caves in

RAWALPINDI, July 5: A tragedy struck Chontra on Thursday when roof of an under construction cattle shed – owned by elder brother of a local member of provincial assembly – collapsed leaving two persons, one of whom had been declared a proclaimed offender (PO), dead and six others injured.

Mohammad Aslam 45, who died after being trapped in the debris, had been declared a PO in a murder/kidnapping case of November 19 last year and was said to be supervising the construction work as more than 30 labourers were busy working below when it caved in with a bang in Gangan village of Chontra. Aslam died on the spot while Mubarak Hussain 50, later died in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH). — Staff Reporter

Woman killed on road

ISLAMABAD, July 5: A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a vehicle in sector G-11 here on Thursday, police said.

Farida Bibi, 30, suffered multiple injuries when a tractor hit her while she was crossing a road in G-11. The driver of the vehicle escaped from the spot leaving behind the injured and the tractor.

Later the injured was shifted to hospital where she was pronounced dead. The police impounded the vehicle and have registered a case for further legal action. — Staff Reporter

Two kiosks gutted

ATTOCK, July 5: Two kiosks were burnt to ashes in a fire that erupted late Wednesday night at district Katchery in Attock.

As per reports, fire suddenly erupted at the two Photostat and stationery kiosks run by Ahmed Nawaz Malik and Ghulam Sarwar. On the information, the Rescue 1122 and local police rushed to the scene and started trying to control flames from spreading further.

However, photocopier machines, stationery items and others valuables were completely brunt, causing heavy financial loss to the owners of the kiosks. Fire was presumed to have erupted after short circuit. — Correspondent

Manhandling accused

ATTOCK, July 5: The court of judicial magistrate on Thursday turned down the bail applications of   ten accused including six police officials in manhandling case.

The magistrate after hearing detailed arguments from both sides rejected the bails applications and sent them to Attock district jail.

Earlier, the Fatehjang Police had registered a criminal case against the accused and arrested them on Wednesday on the complaint of  Safdar Hashmi.. — Correspondent

Balochistan missing persons

ISLAMABAD, July 5: List of missing persons in the Balochistan has come down to 92 while a number of missing persons after investigations have been found involved in criminal activities and not even picked up by government agencies.

This was said by speakers at an intellectual forum that stressed the need for projecting the issue of Balochistan in its correct perspective and clearing the wrong perceptions being propagated by some elements here on Thursday.

“The ground realities are different and there is a misconception about the actual situation in the province,” eminent speakers said while addressing a gathering at the forum.

They said the mainstream media, both print and electronic, should give more coverage to Balochistan specially highlighting positive aspects as opposed to the negative propaganda by anti-state elements in the province. — APP
