UPPER DIR: Militants crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan’s area adjacent to Upper Dir late on Sunday and attacked a Pakistani security forces check post, DawnNews reported.

Six militants were killed when the forces resorted to retaliatory firing.

Official sources said that militants from across the Afghan border attacked a checkpost of Pakistani security forces in Upper Dir’s Brawal district.

The gun attack took place near Sabir Kallay-Sonrai Darra area of the Pak-Afghan border and sources confirmed the killing of militants in retaliatory action.

The incident occurred despite protests and condemnation by Islamabad over similar attacks carried out by the Taliban and other militants on June 14 and June 24 .
