LAHORE, June 30: Some prisoners have alleged that Islampura SHO Bashir Niazi handed over the pistol and bullets wrapped in a piece of cloth to the accused.

They alleged that police killed Azam soon after he killed Shafqat. However, the DIG (operations) rejected the allegation, saying the SHO’s involvement was out of question.

He, however, said policemen escorting the prisoner had showed criminal negligence as they should have stopped the outsiders from handing over any thing to the prisoner. He said policemen had been suspended from service and they would be facing strict action if found guilty of providing weapon to Azam.

Islampura police registered a case against four nominated and 46 unidentified lawyers for thrashing the Elite Force head-constable during a brawl.

However, no case was registered pertaining to two killings till the filing of the report. Police said they were still waiting for the application from Shafqat’s heirs.
