GUJRAT, June 29: Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, whose bid to become prime minister after the disqualification of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was reportedly blocked by the Chaudhrys of the PML-Q, has lodged a protest with PPP Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari and ruled out any seat adjustments in coming elections with the Chaudhrys in Gujrat.

“Yes the Chaudhrys opposed my candidature for the office of the prime minister and I have made it clear to President Asif Ali Zardari that though I accepted the party’s alliance with my arch rivals with an open heart for the sake of the continuation of the democratic process and considering the party’s limited options, the Chaudhrys proved by their act that they neither accepted me nor are they sincere to the PPP,” Mr Mukhtar said while talking to Dawn on Friday.

Mr Mukhtar, who is a PPP leader, said he had asked the president that he would not make any seat adjustments with the Chaudhrys in Gujrat in coming elections and was ready to fight elections against them as he had done in the past.

He urged the party leadership to beware what he called the Q leadership’s habit of ditching their allies.
