ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Tuesday put off hearing of Palestinian hijackers’ petition, seeking that they should not be extradited to the United States, for one day and it would now be taken up on Wednesday.
The petition of the five Palestinians, who had hijacked Pan Am jetliner in Pakistan in 1986, was placed before Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi on Tuesday.
The counsel for the petitioners, Advocate Tariq Asad, requested the court not to hear the petition, and refer it to some other court. The petition was referred to Justice Javed Buttar, who will take it up on Wednesday.
The petitioners were convicted by a Pakistani court and now the USA has demanded that they be handed over to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for standing trial in the USA for killing two Americans.
Another Palestinian, Zayd Hassan Abd Al-Latif Masud, has already been extradited to the United States and according to reports from Washington, he would stand trial in the US on charges of murder.
The Palestinian hijackers has taken the plea that if they were to be handed over finally to the United States, why they were tried and sentenced in Pakistan. They have completed the sentence awarded to them by the Pakistani court.
The petitioners are: Jamal Saeed Abdul Raheem Alias Fahad, Al-M Alias Mansur-ul-Rasheed, Wadood ud Mohammad Hafiz Al-Turk, Jamal Saeed Abdul Raheem and Salman Ali Al Tarakai.
