ISLAMABAD, June 26: The National Disaster Management Authority finalised on Tuesday a contingency plan for the upcoming monsoon.

Addressing a meeting attended by different federal and provincial departments, UN agencies and various humanitarian networks, NDMA chairman Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir said that contingency planning was being carried out on the basis of worst-case scenario.

He said the aim of whole exercise was to prepare a comprehensive, actionable and holistic pre-monsoon preparedness and national contingency plan before the monsoon.

Dr Qadir said the pre-monsoon coordination meeting, as a regular practice, took place in the middle of June every year, however, bottom-up approach remained striking feature of the consultative meetings held at provincial headquarters.

He said the objective of the meeting was to have maximum input from all stakeholders to make the contingency plan more responsive, workable and owned by all partners concerned.
