LAHORE, June 25: The Tourism Development Corporation, Punjab, is putting efforts to promote tourism through visual and performing arts and public-private partnership.

TDCP Managing Director Habibur Rehman Gilani told Dawn on Monday while throwing light on fresh initiatives and the development work being carried out in different wings of the TDCP.

Mr Gilani said to increase tourism-related activities, the TDCP was focusing on promotion of the private sector. There were a number of private resorts in Punjab and the corporation would like to be a partner in such ventures, he added.

In an effort to improve TDCP’s international image the corporation has printed introductory broachers in Japanese, Korean, Turkish and Arabic languages to be distributed in these countries through Pakistani embassies there.

Gilani said the TDCP website was also being revamped and it would be active in 10 weeks time.

The corporation is also focusing on youth and for the purpose it plans to hold various activities involving students of 20 educational institutions all over Punjab.

He said the TDCP officials would hold lectures and screen documentaries for the students, highlighting various tourist destinations in Punjab. The process would also include establishment of nature-loving clubs in these institutions while the TDCP would also introduce such clubs from its own platform.

Gilani said TDCP would also hold painting competitions amongst different colleges and universities on the theme of tourism.

It would also promote its cause through interactive theatre.

“We are planning to stage a theatrical activity at Shahi Hamam based on some epic play,” he added.
