Two die in road accident

TAXILA, June 25: Two boys were killed and their third companion was injured in a road accident on Taxila- Khanpur Road on Sunday evening.

Police and hospital sources said that Raja Mohammad Amir was driving a motorbike with his friends Amir Daud and Zulqurnain Khalil on pillion seats when they had a head-on collision with a car while trying to overtake another vehicle.

Resultantly, Amir died on the spot while Daud succumbed to critical injuries in the hospital. The injured Zulqurnain was shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi where his condition was stated to be stable.

Amir Daud was stated to be the only brother of seven sisters. Police have registered a case and started further investigation. — Correspondent

Robbers kill man

TAXILA, June 25: Robbers killed a man during botched robbery bid in the limits of Taxila police station on early hours of Monday.

Police sources said that marriage ceremony of the daughter of Mohammad Mahroof in thickly populated area of Sarai Khola was underway when three masked men scaled the wall of the house around 4am and made hostage all at home on gun point.

However, Mahroof 58 resisted them and tried to catch one of them. On this, they opened fire and fled away from the scene.

The victim was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters hospital where he succumbed to his serious injuries.

Later his body was handed over for burial after autopsy. Taxila Police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Skilled workforce

ISLAMABAD, June 25:  The Senate Standing Committee on Professional and Technical Training on Monday showed serious concern over shortage of skilled manpower.

Presiding over the committee meeting its chairman Abdul Nabi Bangash said as a result of shortage of professional manpower in the country, vacancies abroad were filled by Filipinos, Sri Lankans, Nepalis and Indians.

The parliamentarians expressed concern over what they said poor condition of vocational institutes. These institutions are totally non-functional especially in remote rural areas, they said.

Senator Bangash said that professional and technical workforce had a great role in the socio-economic development of a country. — Staff Reporter

Week-long course for judges

ISLAMABAD, June 25: Justice Ejaz Afzal of Supreme Court said that judicial officers were a balancing force for the society and their wrong and unfair decisions could bring imbalance, doom and destruction in the society.

He was speaking at the Federal Judicial Academy on Monday to the participants of inaugural ceremony of one-week course organised for twenty district and sessions judges from all over the country.

He said, “The seat we occupy and the job we do is indeed noble and the judges who compromise their integrity will be debased and degraded in this very world as well as the world hereafter.

“The holy Quran and the teachings of the holy Prophet Mohammad (SAW) teach us never to compromise our integrity.” — A Reporter

Nine outlaws arrested

ISLAMABAD, June 25: The capital police have arrested nine persons including three proclaimed offenders and recovered weapons and narcotics from them, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The Bhara Kahu police arrested an accused after a recovery of hashish and heroin weighing 210 and eight grams respectively.

The Sihala police during patrolling intercepted a man on suspicion and recovered a 30-bore pistol from him along with three cartridges which led to his arrest.

The police during investigation of a theft case arrested three persons and recovered booties worth Rs65,000 from him.

The Sihala, Koral and Margalla police arrested thee proclaimed offenders and a court absconder. — Staff Reporter
