KARACHI: Renowned scholar, writer and broadcaster Obaidullah Baig passed away in Karachi on Friday, DawnNews reported.

Family sources said that his funeral prayer would be held on 22 June after Friday prayers at the Madina Masjid near Do Talwar, Clifton.

Baig was a well-known intellectual, writer, novelist, columnist and a media expert.

He was awarded the Pride of Performance medal for his achievements in the media.

Obaidullah Baig teamed up with Iftikhar Arif in 1970s and then with Ghazi Salahuddin and Quraish Pur in 1990s and won renown for the famous quiz show “Kasauti”.

During the time of partition in 1947, Baig migrated from Rampur, India and settled in Karachi making it his permanent abode.

He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
