KARACHI, June 17: Three people, including a police constable and an activist of the MQM, were shot dead late on Sunday night.

Earlier in the day, at least four people were killed in separate targeted attacks, while a former office-bearer of the ANP reportedly jumped off a building to evade arrest during a raid by law-enforcement agencies in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The ANP activist’s death triggered violence in different pockets of the city where people resorted to firing and all the commercial activities were closed down.

A member of the MQM’s elders committee was shot dead by unknown persons in the limits of the Surjani Town police station.

Police said that Mukhtar Ahmed, 60, was sitting near his house when unknown persons riding a motorcycle shot him and fled from the scene.

The victim was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, he succumbed to his wounds on way to the hospital, police said.

A police constable was shot dead and his son injured in an attack in the limits of the same police station.

The incident took place in sector L-1 where PC Naseem Khan, 45, was standing near his home when he was attacked by some motorcyclists.

A man later identified as Muhammad Amjad was shot dead by unknown persons in Orangi Town.
