THIS is apropos of F. Nasim’s letter ‘MPhil, PhD admission criteria’ (June 11). The admission criteria policy should be changed by eliminating the NTS test. There are many reasons for it. First, a person has to qualify the NTS test and if he does so, he should further qualify the entry test conducted by University authorities. Furthermore, interviews are conducted to put the final nail into the coffin of our youth.
Getting admission becomes a headache not only for students but also for their parents who have great expectations. Heavy fees are charged by NTS and universities for entry tests. It is unfair. The Supreme Court should take notice of such dismal admission criteria.

Is it being suggested that Phd admission sould have no criteria so that an already eroded education system sould fall further. Have you heard of the GRE test for such admissions in USA followed by a detailed evaluation. So the author wants no NTS, no university test and no interview "the final nail iton the coffin" and wants supreme court to take suo motto on it. In fact if you say it loud enough specially on geo it might take such a notice - given that Mr Arsalan Iftikhar did get admission into a medial college with a 'C' Grade. So why not others?

I suppose there has to be a limit to what should come up as suo moto in the spectrum of Supreme Court.

PhD standard?
That is something related to "standard of original research conducted during the PhD candidature" .
I live in Australia and I had to go through NO test to get into my PhD admission in one of world top 20 universities (7th in engineering, i.e. Melbourne". PhD is about research. Top class marks such as above 80% (in Australia called first class honors) are all that required.
Most people master their field during POST PhD so let as many people do PhD as long as they can demonstrate their competency by getting 80 percent or above marks. That is already an indication for ability to work/study.

@Shahid...With due respect, NTS is not a standard. It doesn't check your genius but something irrelevant and things...like your short memory...It has been critised by various academicians and researchers. There is need of debate on this issue not in the parliament but in the internationally qualified PhD scholars.

GAT test analyses a students ability of critical analysis and that is an absolute necessity.you see most of our MSc students pass their examination through cramming without understanding the problems.I know this is impossible to pull-off in some universities such as PIEAS and QAU but even in well reputed universities like PU , getting high CGPA through cramming is a common practice.I know this because I am a victim of such practices.GAT ,university interviews and entrance examinations are my options to prove my distinction from others and it also helps universities to select students who can meet the challenges required to complete a MPhil or a Ph.D. degree.

Why not PhD admission criterion be made simply same as of nursery class admission requirements?
For God sake let PhD be of some standards; don’t make it a mockery.
