LAHORE, June 14: Scores of people blocked main Burki Road after a 32-year-old man was shot and killed by robbers in Burki police limits on Thursday.

Police suspended area check-post in-charge Ghulam Nabi Sandhu from service and detained the watchman of a factory for allegedly helping the suspects flee. Police inquiries showed that three robbers were fleeing after looting cash and valuables from a citizen when some witnesses raised an alarm and chased the suspects. The suspects opened fire and injured one of the chasers identified as Majeed. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Majeed was father of five. His family and villagers protested the killing and set tyres on fire. Senior police officers reached the spot and held a dialogue with the protesters who later dispersed.

Some robbers barged into the house of policeman Liaqat in Kahna police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs1.5million.

Two robbers waylaid the family of Shahbaz in Samanabad police limits and deprived them of cash and valuables worth Rs600,000. — Staff Reporter
