ISLAMABAD, June 11: The capital police have busted a gang involved in making fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and other documents of different government departments and arrested two persons, police said on Monday.

Ramna police SHO said the arrest also led to recovery of 300 empty CNICs and 300 stamps of various government departments.

The recovery and arrest was made after an Afghan approached Ramna police with the complaint that a member of the gang, Saeedullah, had swindled Rs7,000 out of him for obtaining a death certificate of his relative.

Naeemullh told the police that he met Saeedullah at Nadra office in G-10/4 where he went to obtain the death certificate.

He gave the amount to Saeedullah and got the certificate, but it turned out to be forged after he verified with Nadra.

Earlier, the police were reluctant to register a case but later when the complainant assured him that he would help them in the arrest of the culprits, the police registered a case on the charge of fraud, sources in the police said.

Later, the police accompanied by the complainant raided a house at Pindorian and arrested Saeedullah.

During interrogation the accused disclosed identity of his accomplice who was also arrested. The Ramna police said they said they had links in several government departments from where they got the official documents and stamps. Sub-Divisional Police Officer, ASP Irum Abbasi declined to comment over the issue, including the links of the accused in the government departments.
