Resolving Siachen conflict issue

THE Siachen glacier is the highest battleground on the earth where India and Pakistan have fought intermittently since April 13, 1984.

Both countries maintain permanent military presence in the region at a height of over 6,000 metres (20,000 ft).

More than 2,000 people have died in this inhospitable terrain, mostly due to weather extremes and the natural hazards of mountain warfare.

The Foreign Office has said that Pakistan would host the next round of talks with India over the disputed Siachen glacier on June 11-12 in Islamabad.

Troops from India and Pakistan have faced off on the glacier, high in the mountains of disputed Kashmir, since the 1980s.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan said that calls for the standoff to end have been growing after an avalanche on April 7.

“We want to resolve all issues through meaningful dialogue, and Siachen is an issue which is a source of concern for both the countries.”

The conflict should be resolved as soon as possible.

The conflict willl NOT be resolved, cannot be resolved, until a new map delineating the current line of actual control is drawn and agreed to - which is not likely to happen anytime soon.

Not only Sia chin but all conflicts be solved, if Deeds follow words of Pak Govt. Also keeping all weather friendship with china( only for donating pak market-one sided ) could be concern for india. Else no hope till new generation of educated mind takes over in pak.

Practically speaking, if Pakistan can support its troops based in Siachen, then go on else withdraw your troops. Don't expect anything from India on this because that seems illogical to a practical mind. If in near future, India decides to withdraw due to its own problems, it should not ask Pakistan to reciprocate. Decisions painted with patriotic color but made out of ego are tough to sustain. Given, Pakistan's economic condition, I don't think it would be able to maintain troops after 5 years. For me , it seems the only thing India needs to do is wait till that time.

Why would India withdraw anything from Pakistan's Border ? Would India get an assurance that no militants will be pushed through this route !!
