GUJRANWALA, Dec 12: The local Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 judge granted on Thursday physical remand for seven days of the main accused involved in the killing of PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun.

Sabzi Mandi police had arrested Kashif Siddiq from Quetta in a raid and brought him to the city on Wednesday. He is the son of the commission agents association president of the vegetable market, Haji Muhammad Siddiq. Police also claimed to have recovered at least half a dozen Kalashnikovs from him.

An investigation cell incharge, DSP Muhammad Saleem, was also present in court along with heavy contingent of police and Elite Force. Later, the accused was shifted to Cantonment police station for further interrogation. However, other accused, including his brother Saqib, could not be arrested. A former MPA, Muhammad Saleem, and Haji Siddiq were also involved in the killing of the PPP leader.

ARRESTED: Civil Lines police on Thursday claim to have rounded up all the accused who offered liquor to two sisters in a hotel that left one of them dead.

Mansoor, Adil, Sarfraz, Atif and others had taken both sisters to the hotel outside the city on the GT Road late Wednesday where they offered them liquor and allegedly raped them. As a result, Samina (22) was found dead while her elder sister Tanzila (24) recovered unconscious. During interrogation, Mansoor confessed that he had relations with Tanzila for the last 10 years. He said he wanted to marry her, but her mother turned down the proposal. He said he had brought her to the DHQ Hospital by his car for her deteriorating condition.

Victim Tanzila, a lawyer by profession, was shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, late Wednesday for her critical condition.

Meanwhile, police launched a drive against hotel owners and prostitutes and arrested half a dozen people, including some women, from various hotels on Thursday.

COMMITS SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide on Thursday by setting herself on fire after quarrelling with her husband in Thatha Gulab Singh, Qila Dedar Singh.

Nasreen had fallen out with her husband Aslam over domestic expenditures. She sustained serious burn injuries and died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.
