THE present educational system in the country is hopelessly discouraging as it does not meet the needs and aspirations of society. There are three different types of educational systems: The government school system which educates the vast majority of children and unfortunately lacks resources, and needs crucial reforms.

Private schools educate a segment of society in the English language. These schools are playing their role quite effectively. However, this has led to a widening gap in society. The different school systems vary from ultra-modern English grammar schools to highly conservative madressahs.

Good and home-grown reforms need to be made such as the implementation of a comprehensive literacy programme that improves the quality of education through teachers’ training, higher education system reforms, etc.
