ABBOTTABAD/PESHAWAR, May 30: Local police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the owner, principal and a teacher of the privately-run Pakistan International Public School and College (PIPSC) under Section 322/34 over harsh treatment that allegedly forced a 7th grader into committing suicide.

Also, district police officer, Abbottabad, Karim Khan suspended station house officer (city) Ashiq Hussain over negligence and delaying registration of FIR against the principal and teacher.

PIPSC owner Brigadier (r) Ejaz Akbar, principal Brigadier (r) Ehsanullah Khan and teacher Sohrab Khan Jadoon were named in the FIR. Abdul Mubeen, 14, had committed suicide at home on return from school.

In a piece of paper found in his pocket, the child said he had decided to kill himself because he didn’t want to go to school for being harshly treated by English teacher Sohrab Khan Jadoon but his parents forced him into going there.

Provincial Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti has already directed Hazara commissioner Khalid Khan Umerzai to hold an inquiry into the suicide and submit a report to him within a week.

The commissioner has appointed additional commissioner of Hazara Fareed Khan as inquiry officer.

Police said they would soon arrest the three named in the FIR.

In Peshawar, Wagma, a non-governmental organisation working for the rights of women and children, on Wednesday announced to provide free legal aid to the family of student Abdul Mubeen in the case.

In a news release issued here, Wagma chief executive Younas Durrani said it was alarming to note that corporal punishment was rife in schools.

He said he had formed a panel of lawyers headed by senior advocate Wilayat Ali Shah to contact the student’s family and extend all sort of legal assistance to it to ensure the handing down of exemplary punishment to those responsible for the death of its little member.
