RAWALPINDI, May 30: The landscapes of Sabeeha Nasir, a senior artist, are marvelous depiction of nature in its true colours as one can feel the breeze and smell the grass while observing the pieces of art.

Mr. Kusdiana, Consular Social and Cultural Affairs Indonesian Embassy said this while speaking at the inauguration of a painting exhibition of Sabeeha Nasir, the former professor of fine arts, at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Wednesday.

He said that the artist used rich colours bringing pictorial richness to her canvas.

“She is a master of capturing seasons and times of the day,” he said.

MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition which was largely attended by the students and art lovers.

Of the 92 paintings displayed at the exhibition, Sabeeha Nasir amicably captured the beauty of nature in surrounding areas of Islamabad, Murree and Potohar region.

She utilised water colours, oil on canvas and pencil work.

Sabeeha Nasir has several group shows to her credit but this is her first-ever solo exhibition.

The artist has worked in landscapes and cityscapes capturing the movement of birds, animals and trees.

Her paintings of landscapes or cityscapes are more than an imitation of what is seen.

The artist captured the lives of Katchi Abadi dwellers in Islamabad.

She also tried to bring the beauty of hills and green spots in and around Islamabad.

“I have tried to paint what I observed but nature attracts me more,” said Ms. Sabeeha Nasir while talking to Dawn.

“I have tried to highlight what birds and animals mean to nature,” she said and added that painting of nature was her passion and she tried to capture its beauty on her canvas.

“I have been teaching fine arts for the last 36 years in Islamabad’s government college and after retirement I spend my days to materialise my dreams,” she said.

Addressing after inaugural ceremony, Abrar Ahmed said that Sabeeha Nasir had a magical skill to capture the essence of the vignette that she replicated on the canvas.

“Beyond realism she understands her subject matter well. She takes inspiration from a direct observation of nature,” he further said.

RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said that Sabeeha Nasir had done a good job.

He termed the artwork wonderful expression of creativity and imagination.

He said that the every art piece depicted the maturity of work and professionalism of the artist.

“The variety of techniques, use of colours and expression are very innovative and shows artist’s dedication,” he said.

The exhibition will continue till June 2.
