LAHORE, May 29: Pakistan Railways Police claimed on Tuesday to have busted a gang smuggling stolen motorcycles to Afghanistan.

So far, the record of 24 motorcycles stolen from different areas of Lahore and transported to Quetta was found, the PR Police inspector general told newsmen at the Railways headquarters.

Headed by the Lahore SSP, a police party was constituted to probe into transportation of rising number of used motorcycles from Lahore to Quetta.

Investigations into the matter revealed that one Zulfikar had been getting motorcycles booked in luggage vans of Quetta-bound trains after preparing bogus documents with the connivance of booking clerk Muhammad Tahir. Quetta station parcel clerk Ameer Sultan used to get the motorcycles cleared and smuggled the same to Afghanistan.

All the arrested accused used to share the income through ordinary post, said the IG.
