LAHORE, May 26: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association has welcomed Punjab government’s decision of deploying police on the varsity campuses for teachers’ security.

In a joint news statement, PUASA president Amer Sarwar and secretary Javed Sami have said those close to “goonda elements” were opposing government’s measures to protect teachers.

They said the PUASA’s May 23 general body meeting had unanimously supported all decisions being taken for the protection and welfare of teachers.

The general body of teachers had agreed that government’s measures would be instrumental in restoring academic peace on the varsity campus.

“The PU teachers’ community is unanimous that the government may take any step to ensure protection of teachers,” the president said.

UET TSA: The Teaching Staff Association, a representative body of academic staff of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, in its executive committee meeting has strongly condemned humiliation of PU faculty members at the hands of students.

In a unanimous resolution passed by the UET TSA, its president Prof Dr Sohail A Qureshi has said the teachers’ fraternity assured full cooperation to PUASA, when and where needed.

He also assured PUASA of support on behalf of Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association, Punjab Chapter, being its president.
