NAWABSHAH, May 26: The death toll in Friday’s bus tragedy rose to eight as another injured admitted to the People’s Medical University Hospital succumbed to injuries on Saturday.

Qari Ameen, 60, of Rahimyar Khan was an eyewitness of the tragic incident that took place at Rein Shakh off the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed.

Five gunmen who boarded the bus from Rein Shakh sprayed passengers with bullets after confirming their identity, killing seven on the spot and leaving six injured.

Police claimed they had found blood soaked pamphlets of Sindhu Desh Liberation Army in the bus after the attack.

SSP Benazirabad Nisar Channa told Dawn that a number of special teams had been formed to arrest the assailants.

Police had arrested a number of suspects and investigations were under way, he said.

He said that an expert sketch artist had been called from Karachi to make sketches of suspected terrorists with the help of eyewitnesses, which would greatly help investigation.

It would be premature to say anything about the incident, he said, adding the SHO of Qazi Ahmed police station had been suspended.
